His record before Jeffords was pushing them back into a corner and winding up with more than he gave up. After Jeffords, Puff simply shut down the Senate, banking on the Carville/Begala/Greenberg Nazi propaganda machine to deliver the left one more chance after the Clinton disaster. As is usually the case, the aggregate public was smarter than the totalitarians gave them credit for.

So we have a Senate where the Republican caucus is no longer infected with Jeffords, nor the Trent Lott/Bob Dole simple-mindedness that held them back for many years. The Bush accomplishments in this Senate will not be 100% (it never is), but will be far more than the nattering media anticipates. Any ANY successful resistance by the Democrats will cost them, Big Time, in 2004, as it did in 2002.
