Depending on how its done - very humanitarian. Look at Kosovo - yes there was collateral damage and yes we did kill people - but I think its very clear that a lot of people were saved.

Preventing massacres is difficult to prove - all you can do is show that statistically - some number would have died - assuming that the kill rate from the oppressive force stayed the same.

In Iraq's case we have close to 7 figures identified on internal issues - separate from the '91 conflict or anything caused by sanctions. Pollock covers this pretty well and identifies plenty of resources to back up his claims.
