We will know when its enough. Nonsense. Nonsense? I don't think so. We know when things are done. We don't always cop to it right away but we get a sense when something is finished. Maybe AA is finished; I would believe it more if an objective person like C. Powell said it was finished. The majority of pressure groups set up to right some wrong or achieve some point of justice do not disband when their original aim is reached, they keep trying to push further in the same direction of ever in an attempt to justify their existance and continued growth. When a lobby group's cause is no longer an issue, it usually dies a slow death. Organizations must have a purpose to stay vibrant. Drug and alcohol addiction has always been higher in non white populations. It looks like we are arguing two different points. I'm not comparing addiction in non whites to that in whites. I'm comparing minority, addiction now to the level in the past. I'm sure racism has some indirect effect on the levels of addiction but the evidence shows it is not the central cause. As racism has gone down in the US the addiction of the racial and ethnic groups most often considered the victems of racism has gone up. The evidence would seem to indicate that the two are not strongly corelated and that change in one can not be used to predict changes in the other. (the two being racism and minority addiction) Why do you assume that when racism ends, the dysfunctions associated with it end as well? There is a correlation between the two but they don't run on the same time line. As for addictions being more prevalent now, it may well be drugs and alcohol are both more accessible. That may be your opinion but its not the reality. Just a few years ago, the Swiss courts ruled... The Swiss courts are not the arbiters of reality. They exist to interpret Swiss law. And they are one of many examples where retributions are made to groups that have been abused in the past. But like I've said before, its to everyone's benefit if past crimes are ameliorated by some form of retribution. Its a big can of worms. Everyone has ancestors that at some point where abused by governments or other racial groups. How many ethnic, racial, or religious groups have been slaves in this country? Maybe middle class whites out East are not sending their kids to private schools, but many are doing so here in the West. Many are doing it all over but a strong majority of white students are in public schools in every large region of the US. Yes, you are right........I had thought private enrollment had grown much more than it has. But whatever the case, its well known that many public school systems are deeply troubled and in poor financial health due to a lack of funds. IT might be well known, but it is not actually fact. If they have money problems it is most often do to mismanagement of the funds they do have. Even the schools that are actually short of funds usually have more funds then they used to have, so the whole argument that the whites left and took all the money from the school system is bogus. That may be true generally but the city public systems which still predominate definitely are hurting for cash. It may be mismanagement or whites leaving the system or an overload of foreign immigrant students or both, but there is no question that some city schools are in dire straits and others are barely staying afloat. Now if you want to dispute it.....find a way to support your case because it runs in the face of what is happening. It is exacctly what is happening.
