Asian are listed because they count as "minority" students. Some minority! There are many west coast cities with Asian populations in the 20% to 30% range. Asian students don't need AA to get into good schools. Their parents put an extremely high value on education and they put their money where their mouth is.

My understanding is that you need to calculate:

100% - the following total (about 59%) = 41% white

International students: 4%
African Americans: 5%
Asian Americans: 39%
Hispanic Americans: 10%
Native Americans: 0.8%
