They may receive 20 points for one of the following: membership in an underrepresented minority group, socioeconomic disadvantage, attendance at a predominantly minority high school, athletics, or at the Provost's discretion.

(3) possesses at least one of a variety of qualities or characteristics important to the University's composition of its freshman class, such as underrepresented race, ethnicity, or geography; high class rank; socioeconomic disadvantage; unique life experiences, challenges, circumstances, interests or talents; connections to the University community; or athletics.

And there's the rub.

20 out of 150 possible is 13%- -more than the difference between an A and a B average. On my high school German teacher's scale, that was the difference between an A and a C.

And, yeah, I'd give no preference to atheles. Games are not what school is about.

Oh, and that provost's discretion crap can go too. That's how one of the clearly unqualified Kennedy brats got into UC-Berkeley. The one that was later charged with rape in Florida.

OK, liberals: What's the difference between discriminating to end discrimination and fighting to end war?
