MARKET TALK/HK: CU Outperforms CMHK After Dec Numbers 1203 [Dow Jones] Tuesday January 21, 12:04 PM sg.biz.yahoo.com China Unicom (0762) outperforms China Mobile (0941) after both release Dec operating figures; Guotai Junan analyst Xin Yi calls CDMA a double-edged sword, but says that upside outweighs downside: "Unicom is expected to incur CNY950 million startup loss for last year (FY02), however, a turnaround (in CDMA operation) this year will underpin Unicom's profit growth." Xin forecasts Unicom's FY03 EPS to grow 41% on-year to 45 HK cents (vs Multex consensus estimate of 41 HK cents). Unicom up 1.8% at HK$5.8; CMHK up 0.5% at HK$19.05. (RLI)
