We do not have a super market chain in my area without a card... acme, giant, superfresh, and some other chains.. all have their own card.. I have the drivers door loaded with these cards.. g
Most stores will run their card through the cash register if you do not have a card.. tell them you forgot it.. other wise they will ask you to sign up for one...
Of course using different cards does not get you accumulated savings towards some item later.. 10% off next bill, frozen turkey, ham.. g but believe the item is not really worth it. imo
They are a pain in the arse! and are used to capture statistics on your purchases.. I expect down the road they will send selective mailings to you based on history of items purchased.. or sell the information to vendors.

Never experienced someone not giving me the discount for card customers if I didn't bring in a card. they always swiped a card at their register thru the reader.. If they didn't I would just leave the items ...g
