Sales verse R+D spending makes a lot more sense to me since we know that market cap may not be an indicator of whats the stock is worth. A company I know very well spends around 20% of sales on R+D and that is considered very high. 10% may be a better number for electronics companies. If the number starts to head above 20% you would have to wonder if they are not more of a R+D facility and not into making products. Of course on the front end of any new technology development you would expect higher R+D costs. Biotechs of course would have their own percentages which would be very high since most don't have sales. LOL.
