economists should worry about extinct capex, not consumers

Jeff Thredgold, an economist for Vectra Bank Colorado, says there's a roughly 1-in-3 chance of the double dip. He predicts the fourth-quarter GDP numbers will initially come in positive, and even if they ultimately show shrinkage, signs point to positive numbers for 2003's first quarter. He's encouraged by developments in Iraq and the possibility a potentially consumer-scaring war can be avoided through the exile of Saddam Hussein.
