That is one of those verses they usually don't read in kiddie's sunday schools. <g> The Bible is full of juicy stories. Our translations have politically corrected many, such as Ruth's seduction of Boaz. And the Bible itself has redactions in other books. For example, there is a verse that says that one of David's mighty men killed Goliath, not David himself. In another book, they say the mighty man killed Goliath's brother.
