You are right. He has Gitlin's worry. Same comment, however. The problem that commentators like Alterman and Gitlin face is that they are not out there organizing what they would consider to be more politically acceptable demonstrations, movements, petitions, whatever. The point they make is a good point; it's a political tacticians point, however. And a bit closer to my own view, which is that it's too early to organize protest demonstrations. The political moods are not quite ready for them. Though I was pleasantly surprised about this past weekend. If the complaining stays among the neocons and the further right, then Alterman will be wrong. I hope so.
