Tom,

Re: U.S. policy of containment in Korea and your comment "Who knows?"

Chalmers Johnson.

Although Blowback is most useful in discussing U.S.-Japan relations, he does a brilliant job of educating readers on the contrived nature of and actual goals of U.S. policy on the Korean Peninsula. Johnson would be in nearly complete agreement with Gilles d'Aymery. Someone with whom I've had a minor correspondence.

It is correct to observe that the U.S. has done everything it can to frustrate South and North Korea's "Sunshine" rapprochement efforts. We want antagonism at the 38th Parallel in order to justify our occupation forces. The younger generation in South Korea has it right. This is a rude imperialistic imposition on their nascent democracy.
