RIAA declared legally insane

The Recording Industry of America on Saturday stepped up its battle against digital music announcing its latest effort to recoup the financial losses it allegedly suffers at the hands of peer-to-peer networks. The RIAA, it seems, has finally realized that its future will inevitably include Internet-based transactions. But rather than develop a business model based on some form of legitimate digital distribution, the RIAA hopes to tax the service providers who allow their customers access to file-sharing services. "We will hold ISPs more accountable," said Hillary Rosen, RIAA chair and chief executive, in her keynote address at the Midem music conference in Cannes on the French Riviera. "Let's face it. They know there's a lot of demand for broadband simply because of the availability (of file-sharing)... It's clear to me these companies are profiting to the tune of millions and millions of dollars. They must be held accountable."
