French foreign minister says no justification yet for military action against Iraq

In New York on Monday, the United States and Britain lined up against France, China and Germany in a confrontation over the Iraq issue during a gathering of 13 foreign ministers at the Security Council.

French President Jacques Chirac, has taken a strong line against military action without a U.N. mandate and is backed by Germany and China. All three, backed by Russia, are demanding inspectors be given more time, despite warnings by Washington and London that time is running out.
