Scott: I would not bet on it. Once deployed, the self-inflicted pressure to use force will be very difficult to dissipate. The Administration can already see public opinion turning against them in the US, as it has been all along in the rest of the world. Waiting will only provide more time for public opinion to further erode. Knowing that there is at best a slim chance that this situation will improve, Bush will most likely feel he has to take his chances with the US electorate and he will strike as soon as possible despite growing opposition at home and abroad. He will hope to be remembered as a hero but stands a good chance of going down in the books as a bungling incompetent on foreign policy -- he will hope for a quick and easy victory with few if any aftershocks and cheap oil to grease the economy back to life. It is a foolish gamble, but not one he is likely able to walk away from at this point. He left himself with no choice.
