Excellent report, Alastair. Many thanks for bringing it here.

I hope its conclusion is correct. Unfortunately, the sampling conditions need to be examined. If Saddam has almost Stalinist control over the Iraqi population, as we have been lead to believe, then its accuracy has to necessarily be taken with a grain of salt.

On the other hand, as the report says, the simple fact that the ordinary citizen was willing to discuss the issue without being intimidated is a welcome sign as it might be an indication that Saddam's grip might not be as tight as once thought--an iron fist can smash but it can't move its fingers very well.

Do you know anything about Crisis Web? I've never heard of the organization.
