Lizzie: You make some good points...

I am NOT in favor of a unilateral approach to foreign affairs and feel we have antagonized many countries around the world in the last few months -- this is counterproductive and at times embarrassing. Going to war should be the last resort (most presidents who have taken us into major wars have NOT been re-elected).

Some folks are very bearish on going to war in Iraq...

The weapons inspectors wouldn't be in Iraq if our troops weren't on his borders.

That's why the French position is such a chirade. They want it both ways. They want the bad old USA to keep an army in the desert breathing down Hussein's neck at no cost to them until they're satisfied. I think it's so typical.

There was a political cartoonest for the LA Times for years by the name of Joseph Conrad. On of my favorites of his portrays Charles DeGaulle walking through a vast Normandy cemetary saying, "Why don't you Americans stay where you belong?"
