thank you Neo, well said

if one is going to goad a poster into a reaction with inflammatory statements, they can hardly be surprised when they then get one

but then to run to SI over it and complain is cowardly behavior

Early on I too was offended by the Icelandic idiot and tried to find an Icelandic Tourist site to tell them about him. It seems they don't have one.

Some of us take personally unfounded charges against our government

There's the problem.

In the military, it was necessary to "follow the leader", but in civilian life evidence shows over and over it's a sign of weakness not to investigate, question, and even have strong opinions, about the gov't and it's officials. The Founders certainly thought so. There was never any "Believe in the President" theme. It was always "believe in The People", much different.

The warm glow of believing in a "leader", or guru etc. is great, but taking these criticisms personally is relating oneself to the powers that be, and the critic doesn't usually have that in mind, unless personally attacked.

"To hell with you, your leader, and the horse you rode in on", is one thing. But unless personally attacked, the administration criticisms are mostly, "To hell with the Bush crowd, their war, policies, profiteering, and criminality" with various data to back up those claims.
