Is your answer that we should have gone to bagdad in Gulf War #1 or not have participated at all?
And if its the latter how would you have handled the loss of one UN member by being conquered by another and turned into a province. What was the alternative to letting that happen at that time. That was more key than oil back then just as WMD is now.
As far the rest of what you write, i dont put much stock into it. I agreed with Bush#1 decision to not go further than the mandate of the coalition, so not to go to bagdad. When saddam started fooling around again, we should have gone back then. That was during Clinton admin. In retrospect of course we should have risked the coalition and gone to bagdad if we knew that clinton would be so weak in this area.
Most kuwaitis support us. They have non kuwaiti workers with ties elsewhere that account for half their population. I am sure they have a few local nuts but most kuwaitis know they wouldnt exist in a week if the US withdrew from the region or was successfully blackmailed by a nuclear iraq.
FDR was no war hero and he was a great leader in war. Being a soldier is overrated. Bush #1 soldiered but was not exactly IKE. Bush #2 understands the ramifications of war as you and i do. This is no game. That is an unfair charge when made against Bush, Clinton or anyone who didnt serve. You might have liked IKE but Patton as president or MacArthur for that matter would have been a disaster. The end. Mike

>>We plunged headlong into the Gulf war and failed to accomplish what Bush Sr. stated we were there to do...take out Saddam Hussein.<<

That's factually incorrect. The stated mission was to remove Saddam from Kuwait. That's what we did. Bush Sr. never stated we were there to "take out Saddam Hussein".

You're either making this crap up as you go along or you never understood it to begin with. I'm inclined to believe the latter.
