A little, every day words but not enough to carry on a conversation. We weren't allowed to speak it in school and in town, it was frowned upon as well. Also, I'm only half Cajun. My father was a first generation American, both his parents came over from Ireland but the odd thing is that on my grandfathers side, there is an original Acadian. They wanted their only child to marry some one of Irish/Cajun decent and it was arranged that he would marry my mother. My maternal grandmother was Cajun/Irish, her father was Irish her mother Cajun. It's not discussed any more and both sets of grandparents are gone now but it would be very interesting to find out just how all this mixing came about.

Needless to say, we're a fun loving group with a love of food and drink and sometimes a nasty temper.<g>
