"what might be" This is the heart of what has been referred to as our new "preemptive" posture. It allows us to whatever we want to do on the grounds that somebody else "might" do something in the future. Imagine what this would look like if applied to policing of our cities -- "you are under arrest because I think you MIGHT commit a crime". There is scant evidence that Saddam is a threat to our security to justify preemption. There is ample evidence that he is sitting on top of one of the world's largest oil fields -- and quite possibly the mother of them all. The rest of the world is right to be suspicious of our new-found eagerness to knock-off Saddam and occupy this oil-rich country -- indefinitely.
