steve - European commission and agencies are a dwarf when compared to US federal administration and agencies.
And, as a libertarian, I agree that any administration is one too many. <g>
I am one of the old school: a public servant is a public servant and not a politician making a career as it is now, in many so called "democratic" countries.
And as administration creates her own work, the more career polititians we have, the heavier the administrations will weight.

Now, about the silly rules, some I can agree with (we prefer to eat French or African bananas, we don't accept antibiotics in our beef...) and some I TOTALLY DISAGREE WITH:
why are prohibitive import duties levvied on Belgian chocolates?
