You really don't follow these things very well, do you? There were some complaints of a conservative twist while Andrew Sullivan was editor, but that was exaggerated, and, in any event, was awhile back. When Michael Lewis was managing editor, Peretz fired him for criticizing the Clinton Administration too much. The New Republic has never endorsed a Republican, and has always inserted itself into Democratic strategic disputes. Most of its editors and reporters have been indisputably liberal, and the ones that weren't moved on in the '90s (for example, Fred Barnes). Sullivan retains a connection, but is usually too busy with his own projects to contribute much. ....
