Scooter, My Grandfather, who fought in both world wars told me that Mauldin used to make the Army crazy. They tried to get rid of him several times but he was too popular back in the US major newspapers, the Army Times and Stars and Stripes with the GI's. He was probably too realistic for the top brass. He captured the grunt's point of view. Just look at the eyes of Willie and Joe. Amazing man. FTA Altair19
