Agreed.

However, 90% of the world believes the pressure is already "heavy-handed"... There's no way to prove a negative, so the only commonsense action is to maintain a high level of inspection and awareness.

Instead the Bush bluster can be spun either way depending on results - it threatens Iraq and others in ways that may be said to encourage compliance (if it happens), and contrary to that it says unilateralism has no limits in ways that may be said to destroy possibility of compliance (if compliance doesn't happen), and that its just a grab for oil and power.

"The future is out there". Meanwhile a lot of political capital is being spent threatening to use thousands of lives to prove a negative. The idea that we're "running out of time" is being used carelessly, without the slightest logical support.

We'll have to see some major surprises, either Friday or soon thereafter, to avoid further decline in support even among the GOP
