I certainly have a bias against deficits.

As of yet, I know of no US President who has run bigger budget deficits than Ronald Reagan.
Maybe, as a percentage of GNP, Roosevelt's deficits were larger but we were fighting World War II at the time.

I believe Ronald Reagan sized deficits remain the high water mark in economic profligacy.

I'd bet he doesn't even recall what he spent all the money on.
