"This concept that teh tax proposals only help the rich is off base. Because the rich pay 90% of the taxes - any relief will seem outsized as an absolute number. As a percentage of income - they are not getting as much as others."

The Joint Committee on Taxation writes up a summary of the provisions of tax code changes.

In 2001 the tax brackets were changed effective July 2001.

All figures below show how the tax brackets change between 2001 and 2006

28% tax bracket reduced to 27%, 26%, 25%
31% tax bracket reduced to 30%, 29%, 28%
36% tax bracket reduced to 35%, 34%, 33%

39.6% tax bracket reduced to 38.6%,37.6% 35%

So it's nice and even. 1% a year for everybody
Until you get to year 4.
The the richest Americans get a reduction of 2.6%

This is one of the reasons for the Administration wanting to make the tax cuts permanent. So that anyone who wants to correct this inequality will be hammered by the mantra "They want to raise taxes!"

This chart is hard to find. It may be perceived by carefully reading IRS information but you know that is very difficult without a Rosetta Stone.

I often worry about the communication managers of the dissenters. They are no Karl ROves.

John,

I think I'll take a pass on tax cut conversations for a while. They are, marginally, OT for the thread. It seems t me it's the sort of thing we can post articles and such to one another but an extended conversation is a bit much.

Besides which, I think you and I are reshoveling plowed ground.
