Turkey has a long way to go for EU membership, and not only because of cultural differences - last year's 35% inflation was the lowest in a long time but still a wee bit above the membership criteria <g>

So if Turkey will be allowed in the door of the EU, it will be in another 8-10 years - an eternity for a country that does not have t-bills longer than 2004 (except for a few eurobonds and stuff).

Re Iraq - Turkey does not have a choice but to lie back and open her legs, given its dependence on the good will of the US for survival at this point.

By the way, Turkish newspapers are having a field day with the allegations that American representatives met PKK (Kurdish terrorist organization) in Turkey. They have a photo to prove it. If true, this is VERY big news.
