Thank you for the link X,

It is a tragedy that our "world civilization" can not find a way to save the "lungs" and much of the "healing center of the planet. It would be so easy to set aside certain portions of the world for these purposes and only allow indigenous people sustainable exploitation for their own life style.

It is so difficult for most people in so called "developed societies" to understand that not all people want to live in skyscrapers, drive autos and go to work in offices.. That's fine for them but let them live off their own resources within their own borders.. When they run out, don't go exploiting others.. And it is easy to do so because by the defacto nature of things, the technological advanced can always take things from the less tech-advanced. EDIT (not saying that tech-advanced is the "most advanced" in the great scheme of things)

But we convince ourselves, ours is the only way and the world should "think" that way.. Similar to religion, each one's is the "right" way.. A "techno-religion" if you will is this. And the missionaries are the "misguided international aid agencies", World Bank, etc.. So the money-missionaries brought some cheap tennies, T-shirts, TVs and radios, etc as the trinkets to "buy", trade, steal, etc. (does beads for a certain island in the NE, ring a bell?) the resources.. The rain forest in this case.. And us back home ENABLE that behavior by our extreme consumption..
Because we have the "right to our lifestyle"..

Sort of like the old sci-fi movies where the aliens invade Earth to eat us because they ran out of stuff on their own planet.

And so now, we have the "War of the Worlds" over "stuff", not in the local theater but right here on Planet Earth..

BTW, I really enjoy links like ExplorerEcuador.Com. I could spend all day on the links.. We often talk about taking a eco-tour to the Amazon rain forest. There is a place in Brazil that sounds nice to us.. Cond'e Nast Traveler came yesterday so that always puts me in the mood to go somewhere..

Have a nice day,

m

P.S. Please excuse the rambling nature of this post, but as usual I am just thinking with my fingers this morning.
