< Then why was Clinton so popular? >

Well...

Maybe because people were working...
The deficit was under control...
People didn't care about his sex life...
He wasn't rabid about removing Saddam Hussein...

need more? There's plenty....

Did he lie about Monica...yup...no argument.

Was the country in better shape...yup...no argument.

And Clinton didn't need a propaganda machine like Bush...

Just my thoughts

I wasn't a great fan of President Clinton but still sent

him email when he turned fifty, thanking for his work on peace. Didn't mention his economic policies. I think he's
a very talented man and he did try to convince Americans
that they were in a full blown medical insurance crisis.

Of course dead beat republicans sabotaged that and other
things with their endless and totally pointless persecution.

Frankly, I thought Americans should be proud to have a President who was getting his. The Monica mess seemed
incredibly insignificant.

The more I see of Bush and his worse than useless gang - the better President Clinton looks.

Everyone I talk to laments the loss of Bill Clinton and is generally aghast at the behavior of Bush and the criminal garbage heap controlling him.

Then why was Clinton so popular?

You "shoot the moon" in the game of Hearts by collecting all of the bad points and win the game. I think Clinton shot the moon.

People seen to love a charismatic scoundrel, especially during times of prosperity with a balanced budget.

Like the Clinton imitator on Saturday Night Live says with a smile and a wink, "you never know, I might even be telling the truth."

Because few people understand the time lag between when economic policies are put in place and when they come home to roost.

Tight fiscal policy and loose monetary policy is a prescription for disaster yet it takes a while before it fully manifests itself. Welcome to pay back time.
