Bill,
Wouldnt it be ironic if the new Nato members took control of the organization? Does anyone know what the other members views of Iraq really are? I think many new members feel they owe the US a debt of gratitude. Their new freedoms are a direct result of US policies in the 1980s. Some folks will claim Rumsfelds remarks to be arrogant. My feeling is that the F/G statements yesterday, more or less saying No War regardless of UN resolutions about WMDs and iraqi responsibiliteis in this regard is the height of arrogance on their part. Rummy said what needed to be said. Mike
PS re: remark below by finance minister Mer "I wanted to remind everyone that this 'old Europe' has resilience, and is capable of bouncing back,'' Mer told LCI television. ``And it will show it, in time.''
Bouncing back from what. No one said they were failed states. They were just called old. This remark strikes me as a sign that France at least has a bit of an inferiority complex vis a vis the US. If they would only take on world responsibilities in their region the US wouldnt always have to pick up the pieces.
