While at the same time currying favor with the newest members of NATO, who's memory of living under totalitarianism is much more recent than that of the leadership of Germany or France...

He also revealed that on Tuesday he had "a candid and honest forthright exchange of views" with the French foreign minister, Dominique de Villepin - the usual diplomatic code for a blazing row.


I saw Powell on pbs last night. I think he feels that France has reneged on an agreement he had with them, and he is pissed about it. If he goes after them, it will shore up the administration with a lot of the MOR people.
