if gays and lesbians are fine with calling themselves queers, then i don't think it's up to me to define the motivation of their reasoning.

the point is that black americans embraced the term "black" as opposed to negroe as the word had been bastardized into an epithet. such that now the word black has become so ingrained into the vernacular that now if a person uses the word "negroe" *that* word is considered by many to be "code" for someone who secretly harbors racist views...which may or may not be true. but we are not mindreaders so i for one am not going to judge.

i personally don't like the usage of the word queer as a noun to describe homosexuals. but the homosexual community has embraced using it..and so be it.

jla has never written any posts that i am aware of that would lead me to believe he was biased against homosexuals..in fact he was called a phobe many, many time with absolutely no justification whatsoever....did you object at the time? isn't calling someone a "phobe" hate speech?

the only possible objection i had to his use of "peace queer" is that i am uncertain of his meaning...and if he were available right now, i would ask him to define his meaning.

unfortunately, apparently SI Jeff seems to be of the opinion that he knows exactly what was in jla's mind when he wrote those words and found it worthy of suspension.

and while i am at it...i will fully support yours or anyone else right to report what you consider a TOU violation to SI..as they encourage posters to do so as a matter of function. they obviously cannot monitor each and every post for "unacceptable" content.

but i do object in this particular case, to how this matter was handled. at the very least jla deserved an explanation of where si stood on his usage of the word "queer" and at the very most, a warning.

btw..

do think it is queer that while si suspended jla, the have left the offending post intact for all to read?
