There is also the moral question, what gives a person, either acting alone or acting as a state, the right to deny a person the right to make his own life decisions as long as he isn't hurting other people? To attempt to persuade someone away from a course of action, yes, that's caring and compassion. But to use force to impose my view of what is good for him overtop of his own view of what is good for him?

What is the justification for that? I have a hard time positing it, given my essentially libertarian beliefs and my strong belief in indivual rights to autonomy in the absence of harm to others.
