(NasdaqNM:AMGN - News), the world's largest biotechnology company, on Thursday said its fourth-quarter profit nearly tripled amid strong sales of its anemia and immunity-boosting drugs. ADVERTISEMENT The Thousand Oaks, California-based company reported net income of $456.4 million, or 34 cents a share, compared with $163 million, or 15 cents a share, a year earlier when it recorded charges of $243 million for terminating drug-development deals and writing off inventory. Wall Street analysts on average expected a profit of 35 cents a share, with estimates ranging from 34 cents to 37 cents, according to research firm Thomson First Call.
