yes, transitioning to a retail portal, this is the toys r us and circuit city arrangements, as well as the auctions and smaller sellers of used goods.

You never know how analysts are going to read these amzn numbers, because on a total revenue basis the retail portion of amzn far outweighs the commissions they get from the portal... however, the portal business is pure profit. The ah reaction is always to total sales for xmas, which is pretty much dominated by amzn electronics business for the holidays.

Wow -- AMZN earned one whole penny per share!

<<Amazon.com (AMZN: news, chart, profile) said it earned $3 million, or 1 cent a share, in the fourth quarter. Even so, those results were below the GAAP forecasts put forth by some analysts. Goldman Sachs expected Amazon.com to earn $18.8 million, or 5 cents a share, on a GAAP basis. U.S. Bancorp Piper Jaffray was looking for $31.1 million.>>

AMZN is being sued for assigning as 'cash' portal payments on their books what really was worthless stock from former portal partners.

The portal thing is a false-hope distraction that AMZN is using to buy time, IMO.
