Yah , it's a little over the heads of some of the new born-again "peace-lovers' and conspiracy theorists here , the same one's that crawled out of the woodwork when Ron Reagan initiated what was to become the fall of the " Wall" and the of the imperialist "Soviet Socialistas". The same group of holy concientious objectors which woke up like little fermenting bacteria , from their collective sleep then , and cried and wailed because they hated the man . Now they hate JW Bush , and rise up again , but all the while the world enjoys a far more open and independent Russia , for better or ill . And at least that one great symbol and the settings of the Cold & Old War is gone and the newest 4th Reich = Germany was reunited. I wasn't the biggest fan of Reagan then , but voted for him just knowing he wouldn't flinch from the task. And that was to bring the Soviet down, and get them on the road of transparency and being a republic . The same will happen in Iraq , and set an example and standard for all the men and women in that part of the world to see, desire and aspire to. People sometimes miss the greater picture of how difficult it is to attempt to bring about some stability and free rule for people that still live in a world under religious fundamentalist (we have them here too), war-lords , tyrants monarchs and dictators. Like it is some divine right that people have to live under such regimes . Like they were under some threat of damnation in some imaginary "afterlife", and never free to really be themselves...<G> (Momar Khadafy has been pretty quite lately <G>) But the Chancelor's political switching and diplomatic maneuvering are no laughing matter. The German design is apparently to saw off the Atlantic part of the Atlantic Alliance, separating Britain and the U.S. from a federal Europe dominated by Germany and France (with France destined to become the junior partner). No wonder the British press catches a whiff of the old Berlin imperiousness. No wonder the idle French threat to veto a resolution — which Chirac knows will not be offered — reminds populous and powerful nations like India and Japan of the inequity of mid-sized France having the veto power, and of the need to prevent Germany from getting it. Didn't we liberate France twice last century and defeat Germany the same with great loss of life ? And then inherited Vietnam from the French and the last throws of their imperialism? People think Bush is arrogant , let Germany get more power and they will have seen nothing yet. They (French Germans) want to play games , let them . It will be us of course , and as usual , that will bear the brunt of the cost of liberating these people.

That article finishes with : The chancellor's Pyrrhic victories are part of the backdrop to the existential crisis that the Security Council is bringing on itself. The Iraq issue is not war vs. peace. It is collective security vs. every nation for itself. well , if it does come down to every country for itself , you know which one I will be living in , and defending of course it was always us that saved them all from themselves many times , originally. ;-) PS: bought any French cars lately ? Software Hardware or anything else ? hehe
