$1700 for a blue laser? Nichia has been selling them for $400. (Nichia has been the only supplier in the past and it is assumed that they're making a hefty margin on it.)

Is the extra 5 mW of power worth the extra cost? I doubt it. The power probably has to go up to 100 mW before it makes any useful difference.

$10-$25 may be the price point Cree wants to hit this year, but long-term it needs to be in the $0.25-$0.35 range to turn it into a ubiquitous device.
