Oh I knew I'd hear from someone who actually used their four wheel drive when I made that comment.-g- I use four wheel drive myself, as do most of my neighbors. I don't live in the burbs and I do a lot of activities that involve driving in hilly or treacherous terrain. But then I also know lots of people who own an SUV and never use it any where they'd need that function, they do nothing but driving on the road. I would say they are in the majority of SUV users who live in suburban areas.

Plenty of 4-wheel-drive vehicles out there that get more than 12MPG (some with more than twice that), and aren't as dangerous to drivers in 'lesser' vehicles. But we digress.

Was on the Mass Pike on Christmas day heading into a huge snowstorm as we headed from Boston to Albany. SUVs were speeding past the cars crawling in our lane.... we gave up at Springfield.... in a car... after skidding around a bit (I wasn't driving)...
