Why ask why? See #reply-18271632 , for example. My personal estimation of the real reasons would be 1) show them dirty arabs who's boss. 2) geopolitics of the not-totally-realistic Perle variant, e.g. base-of-operations for the next war , make the middle east safe for Israel, break opec, etc. 3) as W said to Frum, "Bush leads". Which is all ok and everything, but doesn't have all that much to do with what the war marketing plan that's currently being put in front of us, or with a real "war on terrorism" either.
