But we also had remote starter that left ours running idle for periods of time.

I chould use one of those with this sub zero weather we've been having...a remote starter, not one that necessarily keeps the car running idle. -g-

Nice fuel efficent cars already exist, look at the Jetta TDI, gets almost 50MPG... I have a friend that just bought one and he says over 750miles on a tank...


This was part of my point to MD, these cars exist but for the most part they have only attracted a small segment of the market. Maybe because they don't have the same luxury features as the guzzlers.

I was very surprised when that auto industry consultant told me bigger cars were in the future. it was a few years ago and maybe people feel poorer now, but if there was a big demand for fuel efficiency in this country the car companies would be trying to fill that demand. People aren't demanding it yet. They will have to get a little poorer or the price of gas will have to rise.

Right after 911, one of my first thoughts was that we must reduce or eliminate our dependency on oil. I think the technology exists, the will to implement it isn't there yet.
