i found my comfort zone with spx. if yours is with qqq then by all means keep doing that. one rule i would follow no matter what the underlying is i only trade itm or well itm options. as a short term trader i want to capture as much of the move as possible. this allows me to trade a 10 point move in the spx. with otm options it just wouldnt make sense. a 10 pt move on a $40 option could result in a 5 profit after spread/commish are taken into acct. 5/40 is 12.5%. if you bought a position of 3 thats $1500 bucks profit on a 12k investment.
have a good weekend.
going to happy hour soon

i knew i wasn't the only one more comfortable with NDX/QQQ than with SPX...the two just don't trade the same, and i have not yet figured out the key difference. it seems more than merely a difference in volatility.
