COMPASSIONATE CONSERVATISM, 2003

Bush II decided to reinstate a tradition, abandoned in his father’s presidency, of sending a floral wreath on Memorial Day from the White House to the Confederate Memorial in Arlington National Cemetery.

The U.S. sent delegates to the United Nations’ fifth Asian and Pacific Population Conference that was to reaffirm a population plan of action. But U.S. delegates went to strike the plan down because President Bush thinks abortion is bad.

One delegate promoted abstinence-only education. Another warned of the risks of condoms (skin irritation v. HIV, tough call). A third was kind enough to share her personal success story using the rhythm method. They all spoke of how “the United States supports the sanctity of life from conception to natural death.”
