I am a classical liberal, not a neo-liberal. Classical liberalism had a healthy skepticism about government and cherished the rights of individuals. It also had the compassion Bush talks about but doesn't exemplify, but it had a high regard for personal responsibility and autonomy. Neoliberalism is basically socialist facism. Socialism in its demand to deny any benefits of above-average virtue and forgive the evils of below-average vice; facism in its commitment to impose itself on anyone who does not voluntarily submit to its dictates.
