<Post script: ask yourself, would the military of any other country post an investigation report of this kind on a web site with unrestricted access, for the entire world, including Osama bin Laden, Saddam Hussein and Raymond Duray, to see? >

ACF, I'll be impressed if your description happens. That would increase my support for USS Enterprise. I like to invest in the USA because they jail the bastards who swindle and break the law. The military is also, despite glitches here and there and some obnoxious types, as good as any I can think of [other than the Israelis who I think operate with better ethics, not to mention capability].

Decades ago, I was very surprised to read Stars and Stripes [the military magazine] for the first time [having bumped into it by accident] and found that it was intelligent, informative, reasonable and of a high standard. I was impressed. Hmmm. I suppose it's in cyberspace now. I should take a look. ... sure enough... estripes.com

Selecting Gung Ho cowboys then putting them on a leash would take some management. There will always be some failures. If they punish the miscreants, they'll gain global support.

People around the world aren't too scared of USA soldiers on the ground and up close. It's the 'precision' bombing and collateral damage and over-exuberant response to some challenge which makes them scared. USA soldiers marching into town is far different from Japanese WWII soldiers. People don't expect USA soldiers to enjoy a spot of murder, mutilation and rape as recreation once they've taken over. They more likely hope for chewing gum, a few bucks for a shoeshine, more bucks to buy a beer and the girls might fancy their chances of a better life in America with a charming Real Man.

Any other country -

"Post script: ask yourself, would the military of any other country post an investigation report of this kind on a web site with unrestricted access, for the entire world, including Osama bin Laden, Saddam Hussein and Raymond Duray, to see? "

Yes. Canada.

The had a some nasty events with their paratroppers, all the details extensively and repeatedly air in the press.

I suspect Austrailia and New Zealan would also qualify.
Maybe some Scandinavian countries.

Britain won't, they hide their mistakes, and not just those related to Northern Ireland.

ACF, as seen on TV just now, a guy tries to get the UN inspectors to save him. He got in the car, saying "Save me please" ... "Save me please"... before being dragged away by the Iraqi authorities to an unknown fate, which I expect is not one I would like to suffer.

Poor guy. There were no details on why, but it's just one of a swarm of reasons why I think it's time to take over Iraq and the sooner the better.
