I don't think it has anything to do with Democrats vs. Republicans...but, the metropolitan area in the U.S. with the greatest income disparity (in absolute terms) is Oakland, CA. The metropolitan area in the U.S. with the smallest income disparity is San Bernadino-Riverside, CA. San Bernadino-Riverside voted for George Bush in 2000. I haven't checked about Oakland, but my guess is that Oakland voted heavily for Al Gore in 2000.
