>>So I suspect Iraq will get a lot of covert help from many sources if the US attacks.<<

Things could likely happen that way. And in fact, at the beginning when the war issue surfaced, the attitudes of the U.S. major allies France and Germany fluctuated between "yes" or "no" to the war due to their traditional relationship with the U.S. and the diplomatic pressures from the U.S. As the situation unfolded they realized more strongly that they have to stand up to confront the dangerous U.S. move. From the France and Germany's stand point, not only the instability in the Middle East and changing political landscape in the region that worry them, it would also be very scary for them to see the major oil producing countries fall into U.S. and Israel's hands. France and Germany produce little oil and they realized that their own fate will also fall into somebody's hand should the above happens. That's why we see the two countries united and made strong reactions to the coming war these days, IMO.

The Iraq invasion is not in most other nations' interests (and not in U.S. interests itself either). France and Germany appear to be leading the way and pushing the international anti-war movement. Many nations are voicing support. Help for Iraq may even become openly rather than covertly, should Bush forces the war to start(would that ignite a world war if things happen that way?). Let's see how things pan out in the next few weeks.

I agree George. This is one of the things that worries me. I think we will precipitate more unrest, terrorist attacks from the most inauspicious places and that we never will have peace as we will for decades be the aggressor in what ultimately will be deemed an imperialistic attack.
