>CorDECT is still beng rolled out, as I understand from a previous post. What can you tell me about it? How effectively can it compete with CDMA WLL?>

CorDect must be cheaper in terms of Capital cost. Reliance has an obligation to serve the rural sector as part of acquiring the WLL Basic Services License. I don't think they seriously value those rural customers. And CorDect has certain support among the Indian Telecom policy makers. So Reliance is probably catering to that group by using CorDect in less critical markets.

>However, won't the small amount of spectrum hurt them in the end as they ramp up to massive numbers of subscribers?>

They can always pressure the Govt. when that time comes.

>I'm not at all sold that Relaince and Tata will gain an upper hand as easily as you lay out. I'm rooting for them, I'm just not quite so optimistic.>

Actually the GSM operatorse have an upper hand right now. Ordinary users do not feel the need to switch. GSM phones with SIM cards, SMS, and pre-paid services work very well. They have plastered the country with Ads. Actually waiting to see what Reliance offers in terms of coverage, applications, and quality of service. All we have seen right now is a good price.

>Not sure I understand this? How does one shake down a competitor when that rates are set by the regulators? >

Reliance just signed an interconnect deal with BPL without the rates being set by regulators. I don't understand how that worked either.
