Why they raise foxes, of course! You don't want to know what happens after that. I don't think there are any fox farms left, but at one time there were many. Fox farms figure obliquely in the movie Limbo. popmatters.com This clip from the review above says nothing about fox farming, but the "some previous decade" I highlighted below is the fox farming decade. The place where she finds the diary is an abandoned fox farm. True to the ethic suggested by the title, the diary is unknowable. I found this aspect of the movie fascinating. You'll have to watch the video to understand what I'm talking about. Limbo ... ... continues to stymie your expectations. On one hand, this shift is clumsy: Noelle finds a diary left by a frontier girl in some previous decade: the entries are increasingly discouraged and self-knowing, and Noelle's nightly readings by firelight provide an old-fashioned structure for the castaways: they sit rapt, willing their lives to take shape and direction, to become stories. But it's too late. Yes, they're deep into their limbo, static, fearful, awkward.
