Oh well... What Teddy Roosevelt did say was "Walk softly. But carry a big stick" (*) So much so for the memetic nature of this and similar sentences - they just have a life of their own. In any case the original suggestion is MUCH smarter, even if the world has not exactly fond memories of TR.

Lemme float another: "Suck softly and carry a big shtick". Apply as and when necessary.

Looks like the Bushies are meeting with strong opposition from many quarters -- even the more moderate Zionists like the owners of the "New York Times".
